Coffee is one of the biggest addictions in the world, and nobody talks about it. Some of the most dangerous drugs in the WORLD can be found at your local grocery store. From coffee to sugar to over-the-counter prescriptions, we stuff our necks with crap on a daily basis that our body doesn’t need! I noticed this about myself and decided to do a little experiment: I quit coffee for 1 (one) week to study how my body would react to the change and and here’s what I learned:

☕ My Experience: My 1-week coffee fast

First off, everyday when I go to work, it’s instinctive for me to go to the coffee room  first thing after I set my stuff down. The day before I decided to fast I asked myself: “I just got a full nights sleep, why am I trying to perk myself up? Why am I still tired?” Let me answer that in the few paragraphs..

 Coffee and Sleep Patterns

I believe coffee messes with your sleep pattern. When I quit, I found my body getting up earlier (like 5-6am) when it’s usually a struggle for me to get up at 7am. I don’t believe the body slows down even when we are “sleepy”. I think it’s active until the coffee wears off. Next thing I noticed: I notice how many people are DE-PEND-DANT on it. I usually only have 1 cup a day, I noticed ppl going to that pot at least 3 times per person. Coffee generally makes people jittery after a good strong cup. Having 3 cups of joe in an 8 hour period CANNOT be good for your heart.

 The Coffee Addiction

Which leads me to my next point: THE ADDICTION. Me and one of my coworkers were talking, and out of the blue I asked her if she could ever go w/o drinking coffee. She jokingly said if she didn’t have a cup of coffee before getting her day started, she might kill somebody…  I know she was joking but KILLLL SOMEBODY??  because you didn’t have a cup of coffee? It’s addiction! Everybody I asked after that pretty much said the same thing. I couldn’t believe it, that’s wild! This lead me to think about this next topic and what  regular “narcotics” , coffee, and religion have in common (because thats what my mind immediately goes to.. LOL).

 Narcotics, Coffee, Religion, and Normalcy

I’ll use marijuana as the example for this topic. In many religions, people like to demonize marijuana and marijuana users and call it addiction and not good for you because “thats what the government said so it must be true because we can trust them and they have our best interest at heart and totally don’t want to feed us to the medical industrial system that prevents the use of herbal medicines or just recreational usage even though alcohol is poision but people can shove a jug of that down their throats and its perfectly legal” (I digress), but they don’t see the plank in their own eye when it comes to coffee! The most dangerous drugs in the WORLD can be found at the grocery store! People get addicted to sugar, coffee, etc and nobody bats an eye because it helps the medical industry and they make money off of treatment and not cures.

It’s one thing to indulge because you want to, but it’s another when you *think* you’re dependent on that thing for survival to get through the day. If you have to DEPEND on coffee to get you through the day, there’s something deeper to be addressed.

All in all.. I’m not judging anybody. Coffee is good and do what you want. These are my Sunday thoughts that I wanted to share. See Ya!
